The Flying Destroyer Pakistan Navy’s P-3C Orion

P-3C Orion is Pakistan Navy’s spearhead when it comes to anti submarine operations. Packed with a sensor suite and weapons to match, this aircraft is aptly called the ‘Flying Destroyer’. The aircraft has a range of 2500kms and can stay airborne for more than 16 hours without refueling. The aircraft AN/APS-115 Radar for anti submarine warfare and AN/APS-137 ISAR Radar for Surface search and track. The stinger on the tail carries an ASQ-81 Magnetic Anomaly Detector. MAD works by detecting minute variations in Earth’s Magnetic Field caused by submarines.
